SDG of the month
The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), agreed in September 2015, have caused a stir in the world of responsible investing. The 17 SDGs are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development agreed upon by world leaders to mobilise efforts to end poverty, combat inequality in all its manifestations, and protect and preserve the natural environment, including combating climate change.
AXA IM Benelux the Netherlands Branch has been a partner of the Prince Claus Fund for several years and has supported a number of initiatives, including the 'Call for Proposals: Cultural and artistic responses to environmental change'. We would like to highlight the great initiatives of the Prince Claus Fund on a monthly basis by presenting you the SDG of the month.
SDG of the Month June 2021: Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10)
"Social justice is not merely a topic that appears on the screen, but it's a model, it's a model of learning, and it's a model of film production for us," - Paulina Suárez of Ambulante.
2019 Prince Claus Laureate Ambulante is a women-run organisation that supports the creation and dissemination of documentary films in a way that stimulates social change. Its travelling documentary festival is the largest in the country, with screenings held in diverse venues ranging from the national Senate building to community halls and public parks. The festival foregrounds diversity and an international and intercultural perspective.
Ambulante goes beyond just film screenings through its education programme—Ambulante Beyond. Through this initiative, the organisation fosters independent filmmaking, provides equipment and training to young people, and encourages independent visions and voices in the rural and indigenous communities of Mexico.
