Stewardship and Engagement

Our engagement to drive action and create meaningful impact.

Overview

As a major investor in many markets, we carry the potential to influence companies towards behaviours that we believe will be to the advantage of our clients. This may extend from highlighting short-term strategic risks for individual firms, to encouraging longer-term positioning that helps build secure and sustainable economies.

Engagement is therefore a central pillar of responsible investment at AXA IM, and we continuously review ways to make this dialogue as efficient and impactful as possible. We focus on engagement activity where we feel we can make a tangible, positive contribution – our goal is to set clear and meaningful objectives, pursue regular meetings to verify progress, and to vote with conviction when required. We believe this focused approach can potentially improve risk-adjusted returns for clients, and help build resilience into portfolios.

How we engage to enable a sustainable future

During 2021 we engaged with companies on ESG themes where we believe we can effect meaningful change and impact. Our main themes of dialogue included climate, biodiversity, ecosystem protection and human capital among others. We have also started to cover new sectors, with an engagement programme focused on listed real estate companies; and we reinforced our engagement with policymakers on sustainable finance matters.
